FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

 

In the past, teams could sell food during the “Public Taste” portion of your event.  Will you be doing that again this year?  -  NO. Due to the size of this year’s event, teams will not be licensed to, or allowed to sell food to the public UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZED AS A FULL TIME FOOD VENDOR.

 

If our team would like to be a vendor, what do we need to do?  -  You must complete a “Vendor Application”, obtain a temporary license from the health department, and be approved by UP Hog Wild.

 

When can our team set up in our spot?  -  Set up will begin on Thursday July 10 at Noon and run until 9:00 PM that evening.  Set up will begin again on the morning of Friday July 11 at 7:00 AM and run until Noon.  All booths must be fully built by 5:00 PM on Friday the 11th in time for the opening of the event.

 

How large are the cooking spots reserved for contestants? -  Each spot is 20 feet by 40 feet.

 

Can we place a small camper unit on the spot? -  Yes, as long as it fits within your reserved space.  It will help if we know what size rigs and trailers you plan to place within your site.

 

Is power provided to the reserved spots? -  Yes.  20 Amp power will be available.  You must bring your own 12 gauge extension cord for connection.

 

Is there access to water? -  Yes.  You must bring your own hose for connection.

 

Is there ice available? -  Yes.  Ice can be purchased from UP Hog Wild at a minimal price.

 

You mention that charcoal is provided? -  Yes.  Once again this year the folks at ROYAL OAK CHARCOAL have donated both lump and briquette charcoal for our teams to use.  You are not required to use this charcoal, but why not use the best.  There is plenty of it on hand for your use.

 

Can we decorate our cooking area? -  YES.  It is important that your cooking are reflect not only the UP HOG WILD spirit, but also the individual spirit and identity of your team.

 

Does our team require a name? -  YES.  How on earth are we going to know what to call you when you WIN…..  Once again, remember to have a creative team name that shows off your UP HOG WILD spirit.

 

When and where is the cook’s meeting to be held?  -  The Cook’s meeting will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday afternoon, in the Judge’s Tent.

 

Do you have to compete in all Four KCBS competition categories? -  No.  You can enter one, two, three, or all four categories.  However, you will only be eligible for the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Award if you compete in all four.

 

Is there an entry fee for each KCBS competition category? -  No.  The entry fee of $275.00 (deduct $75.00 if your entry is postmarked on or before June 7th 2008) per team covers all the KCBS competition categories you wish to enter.

 

Is there a fee for entering the Saturday Dessert Competition? -  Yes.  The entry fee for the Dessert Category is $15.00.  Be certain to read the specific rules posted for the Dessert Competition.

 

Is there a fee for entering the Friday Evening Sausage Competition? -  Yes.  The entry fee for the Sausage Category is $15.00.  Once again, be certain to read the specific rules posted for the Sausage Competition.

 

Is there a limit to the number of teams that can enter the Wing Ding Competition? -  Yes.  Only the first 10 Teams to have a paid entry will be permitted to compete in this competition.

 

Is there a fee for entering the Friday Evening Wing Ding Competition? -  Yes.  The entry fee for this contest is $15.00 as well.  Be certain to read the specific rules posted for the Wing Ding contest.

 

Do I need to provide the Chicken Wings and/or Sausage for the Friday Night Contests? -  No.  The good folks at SUPER ONE FOODS are supplying the Chicken Wings, and our friends at KLEMENT’S SAUSAGE Company are supplying all of the sausage.  You must supply what you need for all other categories.

 

Will we be able to depart for home before the end of the Hog Wild Music Jam?  -  Yes.  We understand that some of you must travel.  However, with the great line up of entertainment that we have this year, we hope you will stick around and join us for a wonderful Saturday evening.  If you plan on leaving before the end of our event, IT IS IMPORTANT that you tell Chris Lebo (see below) so that he can place you in a spot which will facilitate your plans.

 

When must we have our reserved cooking area torn down and cleared by? – Cooking areas have to be cleared by Sunday noon.  Please leave them as clean as you found them.

 

 Is there an additional fee for admission to Hog Wild Music Jam?  -  No.  The chief cook and up to six additional team members (7 persons total) will receive wristbands allowing access to all the events of the Hog Wild Music Jam.  Other guests MUST purchase a wristband to have access to the grounds and events.

 

Are there special hotel room rates available to teams and judges?  -  Yes.  Contact Chris Lebo (see below) and he will provide you with additional information on how you can receive a discount at selected local hotels.

 

Is there anything I forgot to ask?  -  YES!  And no doubt a lot that we probably forgot to mention here.  Please feel free to contact us if you have a question that needs more clarification, or that we have forgotten to answer.
